FIB UNDIP – The Faculty of Humanities of Diponegoro University (FIB Undip) successfully launched an international program entitled International Community Service-World Class University (ICS-WCU). The event, which is organized by the S1 History Study Program, the Department of History, was officially opened on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Main Session Room, Building D, 3rd Floor, FIB Undip.
Dean of FIB Undip, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum., was present directly to give a speech as well as open a series of events. In his speech, he expressed his great appreciation for the holding of this cross-country collaboration as a real step in bringing local culture to the world stage.
Art Resilience Exploration with Prof. Sumarsam
The international agenda that runs for a three-day marathon (4–7 June 2026) presents a special speaker, Prof. Sumarsam, Ph.D. He is a leading Javanese art expert from Wesleyan University, United States.
The series of activities began with a Public Lecture session with a stunning theme: “Gamelan Beyond Borders: Strengthening the Resilience of Local Arts Communities Considering Insights from Music Practices and Sciences Abroad”.
Through this material, participants are invited to see how gamelan not only survives in the homeland, but also grows, is scientifically studied, and adapted by the global music community abroad.

From Theory to Action: Workshop to Collaborative Staging
Not stopping at the theoretical discussion room, the next day was filled with real action through an intensive gamelan workshop. This session was enthusiastically attended by the Karawitan Widya Budaya FIB Undip group to deepen the technique and taste in the traditional instrument.
As the highlight of the event, a successful collaborative gamelan staging was held. This performance is the fruit of a harmonious collaboration between the FIB Undip History S1 Study Program, the Boen Hian Tong Association, and Monod Laras. This collaboration is a real proof that traditional art can be a bridge of brotherhood and an inclusive space of expression for various levels of society.
