FIB UNDIP – The Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP has just held a very interesting academic activity. For two days, precisely on 29–30 June 2026 yesterday, our campus received a guest from a prominent sociologist from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, Prof. Kamaludeen bin Mohamed Nasir, Ph.D., in the Visiting Professor agenda.
This warm event was opened directly by the Dean of FIB UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum. In his speech, he said that the presence of international teachers like this is very important to open the research horizon and expand the academic network of postgraduate students.
Dissecting Identity Dynamics in Southeast Asia
The first day’s agenda was filled with a public lecture entitled “Constructing Ethno-Religious Identity: Islam, State, and Society in Southeast Asia”. This public lecture was held offline in the Session Room of the FIB UNDIP Department of History.
In this session, Prof. Kamaludeen invited the audience to discuss casually about how ethnic and religious identities are formed and managed by countries in the Southeast Asia region, by comparing cases in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The chat flow is very interactive because the topics raised are very close to our daily social reality.
Writing Mentoring and Tips for Penetrating International Journals
Not only sharing social theory, this sociologist from Singapore also directly accompanied the S2 and S3 students in the scientific writing workshop session for two consecutive days.
In this workshop, Prof. Kamaludeen shares practical tips on how to concoct a research idea or thesis chapter into a strong scientific draft that is worthy of publication. On the second day, he even gave a personal article draft consultation (one-on-one mentoring) for master and doctoral students.
Hopefully through discussion and direct guidance from Prof. This Kamaludeen, fellow graduate students at FIB UNDIP are increasingly motivated to write and submit their best scientific papers to international journals.
