Opinions by Fitrilya Anjarsari, S.S., M.A. (fitrilyaanjarsari@lecturer.undip.ac.id)

Posthumanism may still sound unfamiliar to some, but this concept has a very broad relevance, especially in the fields of literature and philosophy. To gain a deeper understanding of posthumanism in literature, the FIB UNDIP Public Relations Team had the opportunity to interview Fitrilya Anjarsari, S.S., M.A., a lecturer in the English Literature Department of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) at Diponegoro University (UNDIP).

As a lecturer at FIB UNDIP with expertise in literary posthumanism, she shared her views on this concept, its relationship to the development of human thought, the world of literature, and the future of students wishing to pursue a career in this field.

What is Posthumanism?

According to Fitrilya Anjarsari, posthumanism is a complex branch of thought that emphasizes equality, not only among humans but also with the universe. In this study, there are two main branches: philosophical posthumanism and transhumanism.

“I personally focus more on philosophical posthumanism in literature, which is closely related to philosophy and critical thinking,” she explained.

One of the key concepts in posthumanism is diffraction, a method of thinking that emphasizes a broader perspective and avoids being trapped in a single viewpoint. Through this approach, posthumanism teaches a way of thinking that is more open to change and diversity.

Why is Posthumanism Relevant Today?

When asked about the relevance of posthumanism for students, Fitrilya Anjarsari explained that the humanities play an important role in expanding human thinking.

“The humanities function to open up perspectives and train critical thinking. We must understand that human culture and thought are always evolving. Therefore, we cannot just accept something as an absolute truth without studying it more deeply,” she explained.

In a constantly changing world, critical thinking is very much needed, especially in a healthy democracy. By understanding the concept of posthumanism, FIB UNDIP students can become more sensitive to the social and cultural issues around them.

Career Opportunities for English Literature Graduates with Expertise in Posthumanism

One of the common questions asked by prospective English Literature students is, “What are the career opportunities after graduation?” In answering this, Fitrilya Anjarsari emphasized that students who possess critical thinking skills need not fear their future.

“If we already have a critical mindset, we won’t be afraid of the question ‘What will you become later?’. There are many career opportunities available, ranging from the field of English, creative writing, journalism, literary criticism, academia, to positions in embassies or national delegations,” she explained.

More than just theory, the experience gained during college is also crucial in shaping students’ expertise. Therefore, being active in discussions and organizations will provide significant added value to their future.

Fitrilya Anjarsari’s Role in Student Development

In addition to teaching in the classroom, Fitrilya Anjarsari is also actively involved in mentoring the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Republics at FIB UNDIP. This unit serves as a platform for young critical thinkers to discuss various social and cultural issues.

One of her most engaging courses is the drama class, which not only teaches theory but also provides students the opportunity to develop creativity and a deeper understanding of literature.

Posthumanism: A Tool for Understanding the World in a Broader and Critical Way

Posthumanism in literature is not just an academic theory, but also a tool for understanding the world in a broader and more critical way. By studying posthumanism, English Literature students can develop a more open mindset and be ready to face the challenges of the professional world.

For prospective students wishing to enroll in the English Literature Program at FIB UNDIP, understanding this concept can be a valuable asset. With guidance from experienced lecturers like Fitrilya Anjarsari, students will not only gain knowledge in the classroom but also practical experiences that will be useful in the future.

The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum., also expressed his appreciation for the posthumanism studies developed by Fitrilya Anjarsari, S.S., M.A. within the academic community. According to him, this study makes a significant contribution in encouraging students to think critically, understand the changes of the times, and develop a broader perspective on modern humanities issues.
