Faculty of Humanities (FIB) at Diponegoro University (Undip) held a lecturer competency assistance event based on Expertise Groups (KBK) as an effort to strengthen lecturer resources in applying for functional positions, ranging from Assistant Professor and Associate Professor to Full Professor. The event took place on March 7, 2025, featuring Prof. Dr. Mohammad Djaeni, ST., M.Eng., as the Deputy Director of Career Evaluation and Development at Undip’s Human Resource Development Agency (BPSDM). His presence provided valuable insights and motivation for lecturers to pursue higher functional positions. These positions play a crucial role as an instrument to enhance the quality of study programs while also benefiting lecturers’ academic careers.

Full Support for Lecturer Functional Position Development

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum., Dean of FIB Undip, expressed his hope for better, more structured, and systematic planning of faculty lecturer resources. He emphasized the need for each lecturer to plan their career in education, teaching, research, community service, and other supporting activities. The Dean also expressed gratitude to Prof. Dr. Mohammad Djaeni, ST., M.Eng. for his guidance and support, which has helped many lecturers achieve Associate Professor and Full Professor positions in the past 1–3 years.

“Hopefully, the planning for improving lecturer human resources at FIB will continue to advance, and we greatly appreciate the direction and guidance provided by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Djaeni, ST., M.Eng., which has helped FIB grow significantly in terms of lecturer functional positions,” said Prof. Alamsyah.

The Importance of KBK Development

In his presentation titled “Mapping Lecturer Positions Based on Scientific Fields,” Prof. Dr. Mohammad Djaeni, ST., M.Eng. emphasized that the development of KBK is a mandatory regulation that every lecturer must fulfill.

“Every lecturer is an academic and research leader, meaning they must develop their field of expertise and mentor students and fellow academics. Therefore, KBK must be systematically structured to accommodate these needs,” he explained.

He also praised FIB Undip for successfully producing new Full Professors in 2023, such as Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum., Prof. Dr. Dhanang Respati Puguh, M.Hum., and Prof. Dr. Dra. Endah Sri Hartatik, M.Hum. In 2024, another Full Professor in linguistics, Prof. Agus Subiyanto, was appointed. He hopes the number of Full Professors at FIB Undip will continue to grow in line with the strengthening of lecturer quality.

KBK as a Future-Oriented Strategy

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Djaeni, ST., M.Eng. further stated that the establishment of KBK serves as an anticipatory measure to prepare faculties for various academic and professional challenges in the future. By strengthening lecturer resources through competency assistance in Expertise Groups (KBK), lecturers can better guide students and enhance the quality of their research and teaching.

To conclude, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum., reaffirmed that the faculty will continue to support all positive contributions in academic development, including the implementation of KBK.

“We are committed to continuously adapting and developing lecturer resources through sustainable competency assistance in Expertise Groups (KBK) for the advancement of the faculty,” he stated.

This event marks a significant step for FIB Undip in improving the quality of education, fostering outstanding academic resources, and producing more Full Professors in the future.
