Republics is a student activity unit that represents the spirit of academic engagement, especially in the fields of research and public communication. The name “Republics” was chosen to reflect a spirit of freedom of thought and collaboration.

“This organization was created because many FIB students are actually passionate about research and academic competitions, but didn’t have a dedicated platform to explore those interests,” Febby explained.

UKM Republics was officially founded in 2021 and was recognized as a full-fledged student unit in 2024, after a series of achievements by its alumni. The organization is supervised by Fitrilya Anjarsari, S.S., M.A., a lecturer from the Indonesian Literature study program.

Who Can Join?

While it initially attracted students from the Library and Anthropology study programs, UKM Republics has now expanded to include members from various disciplines such as English Literature, History, Indonesian Literature, Japanese Language and Culture, and Anthropology. Currently, it has 47 active members who regularly participate in its activities.

UKM Republics is open to all FIB Undip students who are eager to develop their skills in research, academic writing, publication, and public speaking.

What Makes UKM Republics Stand Out?

UKM Republics aims to realize students’ academic dreams through collaboration. It’s more than just a place to learn how to write or debate it encourages students to create, publish their work, and participate in academic forums.

“We often talk about each member’s goals and then help each other achieve them. Republics is a place of mutual support,” Febby added.

What’s Coming Up for UKM Republics?

The organization routinely holds writing and public speaking workshops. In the near future, they are preparing several events and competitions, including debates and more, in which Republics will play an active role.

“We want FIB students to be mentally prepared and have a clear picture of what it’s like to compete. Speaking and writing skills are super important both in academic life and the professional world,” said one Republics member.
