Humanities and SDGs challenges and issues become issues and focus in an international conference entitled International Conference on Culture and Sustainable Development(ICOCAS). These global issues were discussed by key speakers from various countries. Prof. Vitor Teixeira, Ph.D. (Fernando Pessoa University, Portugal) focuses on the case of interculturality in Southeast Asia; Dr. Susan Gasson (James Cook University, Australia) with her colleague Prof. Christine Bruce, discusses analytics for qualitative research; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surasak Khamkhong (Ubon Ratchathani University, Thailand) highlighted cultural capital management to promote the creative economy, Prof. Ivo Carneiro de Sousa (Macao Polytechnic University), highlighting cultural diversity; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Rosnon (Universiti Putra Malaysia), discussed Indonesian-Malaysian cultural heritage, especially Javanese culture and Banjar culture; and Prof. Mudjahirin Thohir described the ideal and actual culture of Javanese society.hybrid at Hotel Noormas Semarang moderated by Arido Laksono, M.Hum. The participants who joined the Zoom Meeting were from various countries ranging from Pakistan, Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, India, to Tunisia.
Dean of the Undip Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Dr. Nurhayati, M.Hum said that this was not the first time for FIB Undip. The FIB Dean hopes that ICOCAS can be held every year with various innovations and topics. “Through this international seminar discussion, it is expected to be able to answer social problems, differences, poverty, social security, gender equality, and other aspects related to sustainable development,” said the Dean of FCS.
Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum. conveyed in the report, ICOCAS was part of FIB’s 58th Anniversary activities. WD 1 FIB hopes that ICOCAS will be able to produce research outputs for FIB lecturers. This international seminar activity was followed by parallel session discussions by each participant. There are 4 sessions and 4 rooms according to each topic. The topics of discussion included language, gender, history, and culture; popular literature; symbols, beliefs, and religion; and cultural tourism and creative economy.
Regarding the many students who play an active role in parallel sessions, Fajrul Falah, M.Hum considers it important and encourages students to appear on an international scale. “The research process is long, students are an important part of the research, even up to international publications,” said the FIB Expert Staff. The ICOCAS event was closed by Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum. WD 1 FIB, thanked the participants and appreciated the ICOCAS 2023 committee. (FF)
