National Seminar: Professionalism in Historical Writing to Weave Indonesianness. Featuring National Historical Thinkers

FIB UNDIP – The National Seminar entitled “Professionalism in History Writing to Weave Indonesianness” was successfully held.

The event was held at the Arts Center Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University (FIB Undip) as part of the socialization of the writing of the book “History of Indonesia: National Dynamics in Global Currents.” Participants came from various backgrounds, including lecturers and history teachers, and students.

A Warm Welcome from Undip and FIB Leadership

The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Agus Mulyana, M.Hum., Director of History and Museums at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. The Rector of Diponegoro University, represented on this occasion by Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc., IPU., as Director of Reputation, Partnership, and Global Connectivity (DRKKG) at Undip, delivered an official welcome.

In his message, he emphasized the importance of professionalism in historical writing as part of efforts to build a strong national identity amidst globalization.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University (Undip), in his remarks emphasized that this event was not only an academic forum, but also a crucial opportunity to strengthen national awareness through credible historical writing that supports the nation’s interests.

This seminar also featured academics and history experts from various renowned universities. Some of the topics presented included:

Amrullah Amir, Ph.D. (Hasanuddin University) on the topic “The Importance of Local History in Writing National History in the Era of Globalization.”

Dr. Waskito Widi Wardoyo, M.A. (Sebelas Maret University) on “An Indonesia-centric Perspective in Writing the Nationalization of Colonial Assets.”

Dr. Mahendra Puji Utama, M.Hum. (Diponegoro University) presented the topic “Strengthening the Emic Perspective in Writing History.”
The discussion was interactive, moderated by Prof. Dr. Yety Rochwulaningsih, M.Sc., Professor of History at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University (Undip).

A Forum for Academic Reflection

More than just a scientific forum, this seminar served as a platform for collective reflection on how historical writing can play a role in weaving together diversity and strengthening national unity. Amidst the rapid flow of globalization, accurate, emic, and Indonesia-centric historical writing is considered crucial for maintaining national identity.

It is hoped that the discussion results will contribute significantly to the development of the book “History of Indonesia: National Dynamics in Global Currents,” while also enriching the insights of students, lecturers, and the wider community.
