FIB UNDIP – Efforts to strengthen the culture of community literacy continue to be encouraged by the Faculty of Humanities of Diponegoro University (FIB Undip). On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, FIB Undip together with LPPM Undip and the Archives and Library Service (DINARPUS) of Central Java Province held a coordinated meeting to discuss strategic cooperation in the field of community literacy.
This meeting became an initial discussion space to harmonize the role of universities and local governments in presenting literacy programs that are not only sustainable, but also relevant to the needs of people at various levels.
FIB Undip Encourages Literacy Through Thematic KKN
In his speech, Dean of FIB Undip, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum., emphasized that universities have an important role in strengthening community literacy, especially through an approach that directly touches the community.
One of the schemes that is considered strategic is thematic KKN, which can be focused on the theme of library and literacy development. Through this program, students are not only present as implementers of service activities, but also as change agents who help the community access, understand, and utilize information more critically.
According to him, literacy cannot be separated from efforts to build cultural awareness, way of thinking, and people’s ability to face social challenges in the increasingly complex information era.
Central Java DINARPUS Emphasis Critical Thinking Literacy
Meanwhile, the representative of DINARPUS Central Java Province, Rahmah Nur Hayati, S.K.M., M.Kes., said that literacy today is not sufficiently interpreted as merely the digitalization of the library or the provision of reading access.
Literacy, according to him, must also be directed towards strengthening the critical and analytical thinking ability of the community, across ages and backgrounds. With this ability, the public is expected to be able to sort out information, understand the context, and not be easily influenced by misleading information.
This comprehensive literacy approach is considered important so that libraries and literacy spaces really become the center of learning and community capacity development.
Build the Synergy of Universities and Regional Government
The cooperation between FIB Undip, LPPM Undip, and DINARPUS of Central Java Province is the first step in building a stronger synergy between the academic world and local governments. This collaboration is expected to be able to give birth to a literacy program that is not only ceremonial, but has a real impact on the community.
Through strengthening the role of students, lecturers, and supporting institutions, FIB Undip is committed to continue contributing to the development of an inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable literacy culture in Central Java.
