AREA OF EXPERTISE/RESEARCH INTEREST OF LECTURER

Marta Widyawati S.Hum., M.Hum. is an Indonesian Literature educator who specializes in the study of gender and feminism in literature. Her studies highlight women’s rights issues in relation to rural and urban spaces in literature across various regions of Indonesia. To her, gender equality can only be fully achieved through a comprehensive understanding of the spatial and environmental aspects surrounding the individual. Some of her studies have examined the objectification of women in Bali, Southern Sumatera and Nusa Tenggara Barat. Her findings showed that many local traditions are no longer relevant in the struggle of gender equality. She has also explored women’s empowerment strategies, such as among communities in Teluk Awur, Jepara and Central Java.
